- REHAB 2014 International Conference on Preservation, Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings and Structures
- REHAB 2014 – International Conference on Preservation, Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings and Structures aims at pushing further the discussion on built heritage and the preservation of its legacy, establishing a settle of knowledge and experience from several parts of the world. The importance of conservation of historical constructions (built landscape, urban fabrics, buildings, and engineering works) are of utmost importance to preserve the cultural references of a community. Under the main topics of discussion, subjects of preservation and rehabilitation methodologies and technologies, as well the importance of the economic and social impacts of preservation practices are here covered as the main leading guidelines for the conference debate.
Furthermore, different communities’ scales (local, regional national or even worldwide) raise different questions and approaches, and therefore different solutions that are worthily to study, to compare and to experience.
The sustainability approach is also covered, highlighting the importance of the commitment between heritage preservation and technical requirements related to its occupancy and use, such as energy efficiency or materials recovery.
Inclusivity is also an important aspect to be discussed as public historical sites and buildings need to be adapted to receive different kind of visitors (children, elderly or handicapped persons) and to establish an adequacy with the perceiving of the physical environment and information contents.
As a Special Chapter, Archaeological sites are brought into a particular approach as historical elements to be preserved, maintained and visited often when field works are carried on. These kinds of structures raise unique problems of preservation and promotion, and have highlighted the needs of specific solutions to be applied.
Authors intending to submit papers to REHAB 2014 are encouraged to address one of the topics of the Conference by providing evidence on past experience and ongoing research work.
Further, REHAB 2014 will welcome papers and presentations on field work, case studies and theoretical approaches to historical buildings preservation and conservation. - REHAB 2014 is a peer reviewed conference.

- The 5th International Congress of Energy and Environment Engineering and Management (CIIEM)
- It organized by researchers belonging to the Areas of Engineering of the C3i/Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (Portugal) and the Extremadura University (Spain), has the main target of joining academics, researchers, engineers, consultants and companies from the Energy and Environment Sectors, in order to interchange experiences, present advances and new projects about the rational and efficient use of Energy and the Energetic Conversion Systems, and also to analyze the different solutions focused on the reduction of the impact caused by energetic systems on the environment and the environment preservation, concerning other activity sectors and society. This Congress attempts to contribute to reaching a sustainable development in our countries. In order to reach this purpose, in CIIEM will take place not only all the research topics and development works concerning Energy and Environmental Engineering and Management, but also those belonging to areas closely related to these two disciplines. According to this philosophy, the Congress has been structured into seven different scientific areas, in which all the communications will be distributed depending on the following items: Energetic Installations; Renewable Energies; Environmental Management. - CIP ECO-INNOVATION | FIRST APPLICATION AND MARKET REPLICATION PROJECTS
- Si eres una empresa privada (aún mejor una pyme), has desarrollado una solución medioambiental innovadora, pero tienes dificultades para comerciarla, la Comisión Europea está dispuesta a ayudarte. Hoy ha lanzado una convocatoria con 31,5 millones de euros.
- Bruselas otorgará ese montante total a los 45 mejores proyectos de innovación. Las empresas europeas interesadas en presentarse a esta convocatoria tienen para hacerlo hasta el 5 de septiembre de 2013. Las propuestas deberán centrarse en comercializar soluciones medioambientales en los sectores del reciclado de materiales; agua; productos de construcción sostenibles; negocios ecológicos; y alimentario. Las compañías seleccionadas podrán recibir cofinanciación para cubrir hasta el 50 % del coste de su proyecto. Janez Potocnik, comisario europeo de Medio Ambiente, ha recalcado que la ecoinnovación es clave para la competitividad europea, sobre todo en las próximas décadas, cuando habrá un problema de falta de recursos. Así, el comisario europeo de Medio Ambiente ha animado especialmente a presentarse a la convocatoria a las pymes de los sectores de la gestión del agua y de los residuos. El año pasado, la UE ya lanzó una convocatoria similar, con las que se han desarrollado 185 proyectos y 50 están a punto de hacerlo. Algunos, por ejemplo, se refieren a tecnología para reutilizar ladrillos usados en el sector de la construcción; para producir calzado de cuero sin productos químicos nocivos; o para utilizar CO2 yexplotar una fuente natural de omega-3. El 27 de mayo se celebrará en el edificio Charlemagne de la Comisión Europea en Bruselas una jornada informativa sobre la ecoinnovación en Europa.
